In Shaping Rituals, you are invited to explore the intimate connection between the vessel and the tea you drink. Through handbuilding, we’ll uncover how a cup can carry a story, a tradition, and a personal bond to the practice of tea-drinking. You'll be guided through the process of shaping clay, refining your design, and creating a vessel that feels both personal and purposeful in your hands. We’ll discuss how the shape, feel, and design of your cup can transform the simple act of tea-drinking into a mindful ritual. Each detail will reflect your own journey into the world of tea. As you build your cup, you’ll not only bring form to a functional object, but also craft a piece that invites reflection, mindfulness, and shared community.
Two weeks later, once your tea cup has been fired and glazed, we’ll come together for a casual Chinese tea ceremony where you can sip tea from your finished cup! Bring a friend and celebrate the art of drinking tea from the vessel you’ve thoughtfully crafted. Honor the ancient traditions of tea culture by inviting connection with the tea you sip and the community you share it with.
6 participants maximum. Open to all; no background in tea or ceramics required! All materials and tools will be provided.

This workshop is co-hosted by Quinn Daly (she/her). Quinn is a ceramicist and multidisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles. Her practice is deeply attuned to and energized by the community that grounds it, emerging from a sincere fascination with all things sensational. She finds purpose and intention in both the functional and decidedly unusable. Quinn has served as a teaching artist with Heart of Los Angeles (2022) and continues to develop her practice out of Zakka Bakka. Moved by the interconnectedness of artistic community spaces, she values the accessibility of spontaneous gestural expressions and delights in the pleasures and affections of mutual indulgence. Of the firm belief that sharing is loving exchange.
